Simple Things You Can Do to Have a Great Day

Life is far too short to be miserable and to find ourselves constantly feeling down, repeating the same trivial, soul destroying, and mundane tasks on a daily basis. Happiness is a god-given right for each and every single one of us, and if you find yourself having bad day after bad day, you need to stop, take a second, and ask yourself why is that? You are in charge of your own destiny, which means that you can make your own luck and influence your own personal circumstances. If you would much rather wake up with a smile on your face, and have great day after great day, here’s a look at just 5 simple things you can do to ensure that you do indeed have a great day.

Be thankful for all you have – When you wake up in a morning, rather than thinking about something negative, instead, try to be thankful and grateful for all that you have. Remember, success isn’t measured on the car you drive, the clothes you wear, the house you live in, or how much money you have in your bank account, success is measured on your overall happiness in life. Whether you’re thankful for your health, for having a roof over your head, for having a steady income, or anything else for that matter, when you wake up, take a minute to really appreciate all you have.

Focus on the positives – Another thing you should do to help ensure you have an amazing day is, upon waking, instead of thinking about the negatives of the day ahead, instead focus on the positives. If for example, you have a busy day of work ahead, instead of thinking about work negatively, remind yourself that work is how you earn a living to purchase food and items that you, and possibly your family, enjoy on a daily basis. As well as this, if you have plans after work, instead focus on those and think about how much fun you will have after work, with the added peace of mind that you have another day’s wages on the way to you.

Do at least one important task – Even if it’s your day off and you plan on doing very little, you should still take the time to complete at least one important task. This will help give your day purpose, it will help prevent you from feeling guilty and as if you’ve wasted the day, and it will help benefit you in other ways, due to the fact that it was considered an important task, that will then have been completed.

Keep your home clean and tidy – You may have heard the expression ‘tidy house, tidy mind’ and for the most part, that is absolutely right. If your home is messy and cluttered, you won’t be able to truly relax and unwind, as the mess will constantly be playing on your mind. By keeping your home clean and tidy, you can relax, think clearer, and enjoy clean and organized surroundings in the process.

Do something you always enjoy – It doesn’t matter whether it’s listening to your favourite music, going to the gym, eating cake, watching your favourite TV show or movie, reading a book, or anything else, to ensure you really have a wonderful day, take the time to do something that makes you happy and that you enjoy doing.

Spend quality time with a loved one, whether it is with a spouse, children or a close friend, spending a few minutes with the important people in your life will help lift your spirits and make life more meaningful.

Make someone else's day by choosing thoughtful gift ideas and giving family and friends loving gifts no matter how big or small.  You can take comfort in knowing that you did a wonderful deed and made someone else happy. From this you will experience self-satisfaction, gratitude and joy.

“The best portion of a good man's life, his little, nameless, unremembered acts
of kindness and of love.” - William Wordsworth, 1798

Plan your next vacation or time off – think where you would like to go in the future to explore the surroundings, broaden your horizons and have lots of fun. It could be a simple trip to the beach or the mountains or an exotic escape.
